Starting Something New (Even When You’re Not Ready)
Why beginnings feel messy—and why that might be exactly where the magic is
There’s something about the start of a new month that always feels a little like the opening page of a story.
Full of possibility…
and, if I’m being honest, just a little uncertain.
May arrived quietly this morning. No big fanfare. Just softer light through the windows, a hint of green returning to the trees, and that feeling that spring has finally arrived—a sign of a new start—that something is beginning again.
And maybe that’s why it feels like the right time to start something new.
Even if I’m not completely ready.
Because if there’s one thing writing has taught me, it’s this—
we rarely feel ready at the beginning. There’s always a question lingering in the background.
Is this the right idea?
Will this story work?
What if I can’t finish it?
I’ve asked myself all of those questions more times than I can count. And yet… the stories that matter most are the ones I started anyway. Not because I had everything figured out, but because something about them felt worth exploring.
That quiet nudge.
That “what if.”
That feeling that maybe—just maybe—there’s something here.
I think beginnings are a lot like that.
A little uncertain.
A little hopeful.
A little …scary.
And maybe they’re meant to be.
Because stories don’t come to life all at once. They unfold slowly… moment by moment, scene by scene. In the same way, so do the things we’re building in our own lives. So this month, I’m leaning into that.
Starting where I am. Writing the next scene. Trusting that it will come
together, one page at a time.
And if you’re starting something new too—whether it’s a story, a project, or just a quiet shift in your life—I hope you’ll give yourself the same grace.
You don’t have to have it all figured out.
You just have to begin.
☕
I’m so glad you’re here with me as we step into May.
